Mt. Kilimanjaro: 19,330ft
July 2006

All 10 of the USAF 7 Summits Challenge members made it to the summit on Sunday the 16th of July, 2006. We were rewarded as the sun broke the African horizon at approx 0630L, just as we reached the 19,330ft summit. Weather was standard for this time of year: clear, light winds, bright moon, temperatures in the 20's (F), with wind-chill from the light winds dipping into the single digits on the crater rim. Impressively, no team members encountered problems with AMS (acute mountain sickness) for the entire trip. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to climb with and everything went according to plan. Thanks goes out to everyone that supported this endeavor and especially to those who made pledges to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. We are all excited about the result of the climb and hope that this helps propel the USAF 7 Summits Challenge into a solid climbing relationship with the USAF and onto more peaks!
